Lessons from Molly

I think I need to begin a series of blogs describing lessons I'm learning from my new puppy, Molly. We just picked her up on Monday after a wonderful visit with Michael in Indiana.

The visit was extraordinary because I was given incredible glimpses into his life, his perspectives on life, and his spiritual stability. I was impressed in all three arenas.

The life lessons from a puppy will be extremely brief, I think...a difficult maneuver for me, but necessary at this point. It would be really fun to use them later for a devotional series, but I already have one that needs to be finished first. (It's everything a mother would want her child to know...especially sons...from the book of Philippians.)

My first lesson from Molly:
Don't trust everyone who calls your name until you know they mean no harm.
It was NOT love at first sight for her, although it was for Kevin. Everything about this puppy is different from our first. It's hard. It's not fun yet. It's just work. I keep remembering Psalm 126...
4-6 And now, God, do it again—bring rains to our drought-stricken lives so those who planted their crops in despair will shout hurrahs at the harvest, so those who went off with heavy hearts will come home laughing, with armloads of blessing. (The Message Bible)

I'm so ready for the armloads of blessing associated with this dog!
